Built in association with Witch Rooms, Grand Designs Live Eco House was an innovative, low-energy building that has been designed to meet passive energy standards. Built from a modular engineered timber frame, it was designed to be constructed very quickly on site at the event. This feature was one of many at Grand Designs Live that had been specifically created to be highly adaptable to accommodate a range of insulation materials, internal layout, cladding and internal finishes.
The double storey feature of an Eco House, that was situated in the Grand Build Hall at the event, gave visitors an insight into the next generation of building technologies, energy generation and community-wide eco plans. With distinct areas of the walls, floor and roof cut-away, the Grand Designs Live Eco House was everything we wanted it to be - green and sustainable and the very best way to show our visitors how we got there, by physically showing them.
Targeted towards the self-builder or anyone interested in adding green technology to an existing property, the Eco House explored grey water systems, solar PV technology, rain-water harvesting and intelligent building systems. Visitors could wander through the two-storey structure to learn more about the featured products.
